Qigong is the branch of traditional Chinese medicine that seeks to restore wellbeing through bringing body, breath and mind together in a set of physical exercises that open and clear the channels addressed in acupuncture treatment. By working to stretch and open our muscles and joints, we can make important changes to our physical and mental vitality. These changes will have an impact on our emotional state, allowing us to transform negative emotions so that we can find the freedom to act in more positive ways. The quiet state of mind that is cultivated through this practice is great for letting go of the stresses and strains of our busy modern lives.
The exercises can be adjusted to suit the needs of each individual, and an important part of the practice involves learning how to perform the exercises according to the needs and limitations of your own body. My role as a teacher is to transmit this understanding to you, and to empower you to care for your own health through personal practice at home. Expect to learn static positions in which your mind can become quiet and develop an awareness of your internal energy, and also to learn simple moving exercises which encourage the opening of joints and channels in order to address specific problem areas. Many people report feeling much lighter and more at ease after exercising in this way.
